Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on April 27, 1978.

The arms show (elements) of the arms of the former rulers of the territory. The wheel stands for the State of Mainz, the lion is the lion of the Pfalz. The archbishopric of Mainz erected a toll tower on a rock near Bingerbrück known as the Binger Loch. Legend has it that this tower is known far beyond the Rhine-Nahe region and not only in shipping circles. The red tower in the coat of arms is based on this tower and was already part of the coat of arms of the town of Bingerbrück, which emerged in the 19th century and is now part of the town of Bingen. The black base is intended to indicate the rocks.

Shipping has shaped the face of at least the Rhine towns in the Verbandsgemeinde in the 19th century; the anchor thus is a symbol for shipping, its black and silver colors are taken from the arms of the Prussian Rhine Province until 1945.

The bordure is typical for a Verbandsgemeinde and the colors refer to the State of Mainz.
