Origin/meaning

In March 1293 the town of Villeneuve-Saint-André was founded by King Philippe. This was later renamed to Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. The arms thus show the royal fleur-de-lys, combined with the cross of Saint-Andrew (St. André).
