Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 18, 1950.

The three chevrons are the arms of the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg, who ruled the area for a long period of time. Later the county Hanau-Lichtenberg became part of Hessen, which is symbolized by the striped lion of Hessen.
