VOTUPORANGA

State : São Paulo

Votupora.jpg

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 24, 1979.

The cross Calvary evokes the foundation of the settlement, when the settlers erected a cross to underline their deeply rooted faith; the fleur de lys is the attribute of the Blessed Virgin, patron saint of the city and the wind is a canting charge: in Indian language, Votuporanga means healthy winds. The supporters show that coffee and cotton are important agricultural products of-the region.

The shield is surmounted by a mural crown appropriate to a city and a scroll below the shield bears the Latin motto "FERVET OPUS IN DOMINIA MEA" (work gives new life to my dominions).
