Official blazon

Gespalten von Gold und Silber; vorne ein mit einer silbernen Schrägleiste überdeckter, rot bewehrter schwarzer Löwe; hinten auf dreiteiligem silbernen Felsenberg nebeneinander drei grüne Laubbäume.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted by Emperor Charles V on March 24, 1541 and show the lion of Bamberg and a canting part (Wallenfels or forrest-rock). The village was a possession of the State of Bamberg.

The arms have basically never changed since. In the 17th century the Bamberg arms were sometimes depicted mirrored, causing some confusion in the last century over which were the original arms.

Also the arms were often shown with the trees free, i.e. without the small mountains, as shown by Hupp in the 1920s:
