Wapen van Westvleteren

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 31, 1961.

There were no seals or arms known for any of the former estates in the municipality. However, the village and court of Westvleteren received a seal in 1618 from the St. Peter's Chapter from Kassel. The seals showed the arms of the Chapter, two keys. The seal itself has not survived, it is mentioned in the Archives in Brugge.

The supporter is the local patron saint, St. Martin of Tours in a rather unusual composition.
