Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 10, 1938.

The arms show in the upper part the Imperial Eagle, as a symbol for the former imperial estate Kalsmunt and imperial city of Wetzlar. The third quarter shows the lion of the Counts of Nassau, who, together with the Counts of Solms ruled the other parts of the districts. The lion of Solms is seen in the fourth quarter.
