Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on Februari 26, 1845 and again on March 12, 1996.

The arms are those of the Roelants family, as used in the late 18th century. The family acquired the estate of Wijnegem in the late 18th century and added at the time the canting grapes (wijn=wine) to their ancestral arms (a golden cross in black). In the mid 19th century the municipality applied for the use of the arms as municipal arms.
