Origin/meaning

The arms are canting, they show a wolf. The wolf already appeared on the first known seal of the city, known since 1403, but probably dating from the middle of the 14th century. In the course of the centuries the animal gradually changed into a fox. The official chain of the mayor from 1819 undoubtedly showed a fox. In 1961 the present arms were granted, again with a wolf, not a fox.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
