Escudo cortado, 1º de plata, el brazo armado de Viriato moviente del flanco siniestro, sosteniendo en su mano una bandera formada por tiras de gules, salvo la superior que lo es de sinople; y 2º de plata, un puente de dos arcos de piedra, flanqueado de dos torres también de piedra y terrazado de sinople, y por debajo de él discurre un río de azur y plata. Timbre: Corona real cerrada. |- |English | blazon wanted |}

Origin/meaning

The right side of the arms shows the armoured arm of Viriato, a local hero, born in Sayago, who fought against 8 Roman consuls trying to conquer the area. Hence the banner shows 8 red bars, one for each consul he defeated. The green bar symbolises the victory of the people of Zamora with King Ferdinand against the Portugese.

The left side shows the gate of Mérida, a fortress built in Zamora during the wars with the Moors in the 15th century.
