State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Rotenburg an der Wümme (until 1978 Bremervörde)
Samtgemeinde : Samtgemeinde Zeven

Wappen von Zeven/Arms (crest) of Zeven

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1932 and were newly devised. The arms show two keys taken from the arms of Bremen and St. Vitus, the patron saint of the town.

The town was a possession of the bishops of Bremen until the 30-years war, when it became a Swedish possession. St. Vitus was the patron saint of the Benedictine convent which was established in the small village in 1141. He became the patron saint of the town, which developed around the convent.

Before 1932 the town did not use arms, but a seal that showed the two crossed keys below the cross of Verden.
