In the middle of the 17<sup>th</sup> century the first seal was made. It showed three holly leaves in a crowned shield. The holly, (Hülst in the North-West German dialect) is a canting symbol. The arms thus never changed since.

The municipality nowadays uses the arms again placed in a shield as a mis-interpretation of the true arms :
