Origin/meaning

The oldest known seal of Ottenhöfen dates from 1830 and shows a wheel in a crowned shield. A later 19th century seal shows the same arms. The arms were officially approved in March 1900.

The origin or meaning of the wheel is not known. It has been proposed that it is an old village sign, that it is a water mill wheel (derived from Mühlendorf), or that the spokes symbolise the 8 valleys around the village.
