History: First formed in 1942 at Royal Naval Air Station Hatston (HMS Sparrowhawk), Orkney Islands.

Origin/meaning

The five clouds alludes to the five Pilots from No 880 Squadron that come over when No 899 Squadron was formed. The Winged Gauntlet symbolises seving in HMS Indomitable whose Badge includes a gauntlet. The Badge was approved on 1 September 1943.
