EPPENSTEIN
State : Steiermark
District : Judenburg
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 15, 1985.
The village bears the name of a noble family, who, until the 12th century, were Dukes of Carinthia and Margraves of Styria. The family had a castle in the area. Later, the castle passed to the Landesfürst, now the Duke of Styria, who had it administered by his vassals. In their arms, they bore two chevrons argent.
In honour of the ducal Eppensteiner, the chevrons were changed from argent to ermine.
