ASSOCIATION DES LEBEL D'AMÉRIQUE

Coat of arms (crest) of Association des Lebel d'Amérique

Official blazon

Arms : Azure a chevron wavy between in dexter a carpenter's adze and a double-bitted axe in saltire surmounted in pale by a flail, in sinister three ears of wheat their stems bound, and in base three fleurs-de-lis, on a chief Or a lion passant guardant Gules
Motto: HONNEUR ET LABEUR

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 20, 2005.

The right arm of the chevron represents the St. Lawrence River, and the left arm, the Rivière-Ouelle. The three farm implements recall the tools that the ancestors of the Lebel family used to clear land, square timber, split wood and thrash wheat. The three ears of wheat symbolize farming and the contributions that the Lebels made, as ploughmen and pioneers, to the economic and agricultural development of New France. The three fleurs-de-lis refer to Royal France and to the three Lebel sons, Jean, Nicholas and Joseph, from whom the original Quebec lines descend. The lion in chief is a direct reference to Normandy, the homeland of Nicholas Le Bel.

The motto means "Honour and work".
