Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ?

The arms are partly canting and refer to the origin of the name. Alverca comes from the Arab Al-Birkä, that refers to a swampy area or wetlands. This is represented by the two wavy bends, which at the same time refer to the Tejo river. The two crescents are also a symbol for the Arabs that founded the town.

The previous arms were granted on June 6, 1935 and only differ in the crown.
