HIRNSDORF

State : Steiermark
District : Weiz
Incorporated into : 2015 Feistritztal

Wappen von Hirnsdorf

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 21st, 1983.

During excavations in municipal territory, a millstone from Roman times was found. In medieval times, there were several mills at Hirnsdorf; and where there was a mill, there were other tradesmen, too. A mill was a benefit to the Grundherr (landowner) and to the local farmers. So, a mill-stone was put into the arms.

The vine-leaves represent the long tradition of viticulture. They form a chevron, as borne by the counts of Herberstein, for centuries the most important landowners in the area.
