Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
HEIDESHEIM AM RHEIN
State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Mainz-Bingen (until 1969 Bingen)
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandsgemeinde Heidesheim am Rhein
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1927 and is based on the 15th century seal of the village. The seal already showed the arms, with St. Bilhildis and St. Catherine as supporters. St. Bilhildis was patron saint of the Altenmünster Abbey in Mainz, which owned the village at the time. St. Catherine was the local patron saint. The arms itself show a cross for the monastery and a wheel, the symbol of St. Catherine.
The arms were granted in the colours of the State of Mainz.
