Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on January 26, 1993.
The arms show the rooster on top of the church of Nossa Senhora das Necessidades in the parish, which can be seen from a great distance. Its golden colour symbolises the importance of the parish, with the former palace (now used as a ministry).
The base shows the Tejo (Tagus) river, that flows alongside the parish. The green field is the colour of hope and symbolised the former Convento das Necessidades (Convent of Needs or the needy), built in 1750 in the parish.
