VILSECK
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Amberg-Sulzbach (until 1973 Amberg)
Additions : 1971 Gressenwöhr, Irlbach (partly), Langenbruck, Schlicht, Sigl
German | In Gold aus blauen Wellen wachsender, mit einer silbernen Schrägleiste überdeckter, rot gekrönter, rot bewehrter schwarzer Löwe.
Origin/meaningThe arms are already seen on the oldest known seal of the city, which dates from the first half of the 14th century. The arms show the lion of Bamberg rising from the Vils river. The city was ruled by the Bishops of Bamberg. The crown on the lion was added in the 15th century and the arms have not really changed since.
