Official blazon
In Gold ein widersehender, silbern gekrönter und silbern bewehrter roter Löwe.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 16, 1969.
The arms show a lion, derived from the arms of the Counts of Velburg. The lion already appears on the oldest known seals of the city, dating from 1387. Until 1819 the arms were shown with a red lion on a silver field. Since 1818 the field is generally golden. Nevertheless the silver field was still used in the late 19th century, as shown in the books by Hupp.
