Origin/meaning :

The arms were granted on December 31, 1973.

The axes indicate the first settlers; the fleur-de-lis the local patron saint, St. Mary. The base symbolises the many rivers in the region.

The shield is flanked by oranges and coffee, the main crops in the region.
