Arms (crest) of Hríseyjarhreppur

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Hrísey is an island in the middle of Eyjafjörður (island fjord) in the northern part of Iceland and the island is known for being a sanctuary for a few species of birds, arctic terns eider ducks and ptarmigans to name a few. The ptarmigan is probably the most famous bird of these as they are hunted all around the country except for there.

The ptarmigan with it's wings up and the bird's body from wingtip to bottom of belly forms the shape of the island.
