PONT-LA-VILLE

Canton : Fribourg

Armoiries de Pont-la-Ville (Fribourg)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The bridge is a canting element (Pont=bridge) and already appeared on the seal of Jocelin, co-lord of the town in 1251, see below. The colours ar emost likely derived from the arms of the Diocese of lausanne, as the town historically beloinged to the territory of the bishops. It is not known when the arms were first acually used as town arms though.
