Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the archdiocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The personal arms of Archbishop Jerome Hanus displays the open scriptures, indicating the translation by St. Jerome to Latin (Vulgate). Jerome was the name given the Archbishop in monastic profession.
