Origin/meaning

The U shaped like a Bird alludes to the name. The Wing was named for Colonel-General Ernst Udet who was a successful fighter pilot in World War I with 62 Kills. Befor World War II he headed the Technical Department (Generalluftzeugmeister) of the Luftwaffe. He broke down as he could not face the strains of the office and took his own life on 17 november 1941. Officialy He had be killed in a crash while Testing a New Aircraft Type.
