Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 30, 1997.

The arms show a wavy pale for the Lengwitz river, but at the same time the pale symbolises that the municipality historically was divided among the Amt Ilmenau and the Amt Schleusingen. The deer antler and the pine tree symbolise the forests in the area.
