Origin/meaning

The arms are identical to the composition on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from 1221. The arms were devise d in the 19th century and colours were added. Later seals all showed a similar composition, with the addition of different elements.

The wall and towers indicate the city character of Remagen, the meaning and origin of the crowned wolf is not known.
