Origin/meaning
The basic colours in the arms of the township of West Carleton are derived from those of the province of Ontario, gold and green.
The garbs, or wheat sheaves are in recognition of the agriculture in the area and, the pine tree alludes to the forestry and to the great stands of this tree which were once prevalent in the Ottawa valley.
The mural crown is the usual symbol of municipal authority and that this authority functions under the laws of Ontario is shown by the display of the provincial floral emblem. The three trilliums could also allude to the three Townships, Torbolton, Fitzroy, and Huntley which are now joined under this authority. The bend charged with a pheon refers to the naming of the Township after Sir Guy Carleton, in whose Arms three pheons argent appear on a bent sable.
