District : Lisboa

Brasão de Abrigada

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 17, 1995.

The silver shield with the blue cross and golden besants is taken from the arms of the Araújo family. The family played a large role in the local history and Gonçalo Vaz de Araujo founded a chapel in the local church.

The star was added as a symbol for Our Lady of Grace, the local patron saint, blue being the colour of St. Mary. The dog was taken from the arms of the city of Alenquer.
