ADOLFSECK

State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Rheingau-Taunus Kreis (until 1977 Untertaunuskreis)
Incorporated into: 1972 Bad Schwalbach

Wappen von Adolfseck/Arms (crest) of Adolfseck
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

I have no information when, or if, the arms were officially granted.

The arms show the arms of the Counts of Nassau, with the lion in an unusual, sitting, position. This is probably due to a wrong image that was used for making the local seal in the 18th century. This seal is the only seal of Adolfseck showing arms, later seals only showed the name. The village received city rights in 1367 from Adolf von Nassau-Idstein, who owned the local castle, around which the village developed.

The village, however, never developed into a proper city.
