Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 5, 1920.

The wavy bend refers to the Dalälv river in the municipality. The history of the town is strongly associated with mining an industry. The copper sign refers to the copper mining since medieval times. In 1636 a larger copper factory was established in the town, which became one of the largest in Europe. Copper remained an important part of the local economy until 1869. In 1874 the start was made for an iron factory, which is symbolized by the iron symbol in the arms.
