In the village of Rehme a spa was founded in 1751 and this spa was enlarged in 1839 by Karl von Oeynhausen. The village changed its name in 1847 to Bad Oeynhausen and became a city in 1860. Probably at the same time the arms were devised. The arms show the ladder of the arms of the Von Oyenhausen family. As a supporter the goddess Hygieia was added, holding a snake and scales.
