Origin/meaning

Barby was founded as a city at the end of the 13th century and has been the residence of many noble dynasties. The arms are based on the oldest seal, known from the 14th century. The arms never really changed, except that the shape and size of the castle has changed according to the fashion of the time. The present shape dates from 1936.
