Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 14, 2005.

The lion is taken from the arms of the Counts of Löwenstein, who ruled the village from 1521-1792. The castle represents the castle at Scharfenberg (Münz), which played a major role in the local history, as the village belonged to the estate of the castle. The axe in the lower half represents the forestry and the fact that the village developed around a crearing in the forests in early medieval times. Before the arms were granted two alternative figures in the lower half were proposed. One proposal showed a key for the Weissenburg Abbey, owners of the estate and castle since 1334. The other showed a forest-hook, as an alternative symbol for forestry.
