Origin/meaning

The hawthorn flower symbolises Broussey, which may have been derived from the Gallic brucos : brushwood, bush, it also recalls that the parish is dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary in her nativity. The thorns of the branches around the shield represent the defensive elements of the fortified church.

The two stars on a gold field are based on the arms of the Bertin de Fligny family (who used azure with 3 gold stars) co-lords of the village for two communities, one of the jurisdiction of Vaucouleurs, the other from Gondrecourt.

The lion's head is taken from the arms of Luxembourg-Ligny another co-lord of part of the municipality.
