Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 18, 1838 by King Ludwig I of Bavaria.

The arms show a castle and a canting beech (Buche). The castle is a symbol for the castle of the Counts of Marstetten and Neiffen, which used to stand near the town.
The colours are the colours of Bayern. In 1835 the town applied for arms with two fleur-de-lis (lilies) instead of the castle. These were taken from the arms of the Fugger family, who owned the town for some time.

As supporters the Bavarian lion and as a crest a laurel branch were sometimes used, but these were not officially granted.
