Origin/meaning

The colours are the school colours, red black and silver.

The birds are crows, probably relating to a local myth that the towns name derives from Crows Nest. There is a sizable crow colony in town which is maybe why the myth endures.

The boar is important to the town and it represents determination or fortitude and the book is to represent learning.

The motto is in Scots and would translate in to English as The deed shows proof, in essence Actions speak louder than words.

Literature: Lord Lyon register; background from Gordon Simpson.
