Origin/meaning
Crailsheim received city rights in 1323 from the Counts of Hohenlohe. The city became a possession of the Margraves of Nürnberg in 1399. The latter confirmed the arms, somewhere in the 15th century, as the oldest known seal of the city, which dates from 1310 already shows the above arms. The colours, however, were not known until the 19th century and are the colours of the Counts of Hohenlohe.
The three symbols are kettle-hooks, not keys. The hooks are probably a canting symbol, the hooks are called Craile in the local (historical) dialect.
The arms did not change after the addition of the other municipalities.
