Origin/meaning

The ploughshare symbolises the predominant agricultural use of the soil today. The mill wheel indicates the still existing water mills. The silver lion is taken from the arms of the noble family von Elding. The family was first mentioned in 1245 and lived there until 1633. The wavy bar indicates the Lutter and Lachte flowing through the municipality.
