Origin/meaning

The arms are based on an old seal from the late 13th or early 14th century. The arms were included in the grant of the city rights by King Charles IV in 1354. The tower probably refers to the old defense tower in the town. The colours are those of the Diocese of Chur, as the bishops had a large estate and castle in the town and owned most of the area. Fürstenau never developed into a proper city though and is now the smallest city in Switzerland.

The arms thus basically have never changed during the centuries. Only in the Coffee Hag albums a different version appeared in one of the editions, see below.
