Origin/meaning

The city belonged until 1803 to the State of Passau and did not have its own seal or arms. The above arms are known since 1818. The bird most likely is a canting symbol, a free (Frei) bird. The meaning of the tree is not known. The composition of the arms did not change, but the actual shape and size of the elements has changed considerably during the last centuries.
