German In Rot auf silbernem Ross der golden gerüstete Heilige, den blauen Mantel mit silbernem Schwert dem am Boden liegenden Bettler zuteilend.

Origin/meaning

The arms show the local patron saint, St. Martin, cutting his cloak for a beggar. The composition already appeared on the seal of the city from 1447. The old seals show the beggar standing, whereas later seals show the beggar sitting as above.
