Origin/meaning

Geisenfeld received town rights in 1310 and was fortified in 1407. The oldest seal dates from 1412 and shows already the arms as shown above. The arms are derived from the oldest arms of the Wittelsbach family and were also used by the local monastery. The oldest known colours are in red a silver bar (known since 1608) but in the late 18th century the colours were exchanged.
