Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 30, 1997.
The rationale is pretty obvious - the bars and stars are taken from the arms of George Washington, but the bars have been 'bent' to look like open books. The crest shows the cupola at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington.
