GERACH

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Birkenfeld
Verbandsgemeinde : Herrstein

Wappen von Gerach (bei Idar-Oberstein)/Arms (crest) of Gerach (bei Idar-Oberstein)
Official blazon
German In schräglinks geteiltem Schild vorne schräggekreuzt schwarzer Schlägel und schwarzer Hammer in Silber, hinten rot-silbernes Schach, im Schildfuß belegt mit schwarzer Abtskrümme.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 25, 1962.

The arms combine in the lower half the chequered field of the Counts of Sponheim, to which the area historically belonged, with miner's tools in the upper part. Mining was of great importance to the village. The crosier in the base refers to the fact that the village was the seat of the 'In der Abtei' (in the Abbey) court of the County of Sponheim.

Literature: Heyen und Zimmer, 1966
