Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 10, 1995.

The eagle in the upper half is the Prussian eagle, symbolising that Gosswitz was a Prussian possession until 1945, the council used since 1815 a seal with the Prussian eagle.

The lower half shows a beech branch and beechnut. These are canting symbols for the village of Buchwitz (Buche=beech), and were also used in the 19^th century seal of the village. The wavy division line and blue bar symbolise the village of Saalthal, which is situated along the Hohenwarte lake.
