GRÖBMING

State : Steiermark
District : Liezen

Wappen von Gröbming/Arms (crest) of Gröbming

Official blazon

Unter blauem Schildhaupt in Zahnschnitt im silbernem Feld pfahlweise zwei rote Lilienstäbe, deren Schäfte balkenförmig von zwölf roten Apostelkreuzen in zwei Reihen begleitet.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 11, 1994.

The two sceptres are to symbolise judges staffs. In medieval times, Gröbming was divided in two judicial districts (Hofmarken) by the landowners, the Bishop of Chiemsee and the Archbishop of Salzburg. Only in 1803 Gröbming was made part of the Duchy of Styria. The chief of the shield indicates a rocky formation after which Gröbming was named (grim de grebnic, something like "cockscomb").

The twelve crosses stand for the Holy Apostles. Gröbming's parish church boasts a famous altar by Lienhard Astl, dedicated to the Apostles.
