Origin/meaning

The above arms were proposed in 1956; I have no idea whether the arms were actually adopted.

The oldest seal of the village dates from 1568 and shows a shield with the arms of Diez with the local patron saint, St. John Baptist, as supporter. However, instead of the symbol of St. John Baptist, the Paschal Lamb, the chalice of St. John the Evangelist was shown on the seal. The Paschal Lamb did already appear on the local church seal, known since 1494. Two different 17th century seals show again St. John Baptist, now accompanied by the new patron saint, St. Mary. From 1806 onwards, the local seals show either the name or the arms of the State of Rheinland-Pfalz.

The proposed arms combine the Paschal Lamb with the fleur-de-lys as symbol of St, Mary. The colours are those of Diez.
